Formal and architectural, this rug is woven with an all-over lattice of large interlocking circles and quatrefoils, each filled with split-leaf arabesques and palmettes. The muddy camel-brown tracery of the lattice and the wide camel border are the colours that catch the eye first, drawn over a deep navy-blue ground that quietly anchors the whole design.
Within the lattice, fine arabesque scrollwork in camel, tan, and ivory is lit by small green-diamond centres and rust-red blossoms, giving the muted palette flashes of life. A broad muddy-camel border of palmettes and vines, framed by navy guard bands, repeats the field colours and gives the rug a calm, grounded, almost antique character.
