Unlike a single-medallion rug, this piece is a whole sampler of designs. Its field is divided into a grid of small panels — the classic Bakhtiari ‘garden’ layout — and every compartment holds a different motif: a flowering mihrab arch, slender cypress and weeping-willow trees, diamond lattices, geometric medallions, and stylised blossoms. The effect is like looking down on a walled Persian garden divided into flowerbeds.
The palette is soft and antique: muted sage-green, gold and camel, faded terracotta-rose, dusty blue, and ivory, all woven in gently aged tones that feel collected over time rather than new. A sage-green border of linked geometric medallions frames the field, edged with ivory and red guard stripes. Because every panel differs, the rug holds the eye — there is always another small scene to find.
Hand-knotted on a cotton foundation with the tight double knot, it carries fine, even detail across dozens of distinct panels — a real test of a weaver’s skill. Its warm, multi-colour palette is wonderfully versatile, settling happily into traditional and modern rooms alike, and bringing colour and storytelling to a living room, study, or bedroom. As a one-of-a-kind handmade piece, no other rug repeats its exact mix of panels, colour, and character.
