A warm chestnut brown fills the entire field, plain and unbordered, its colour alive with the natural abrash of hand-spun wool — quiet passages of cocoa, rust and deeper coffee that drift across the surface as the light catches the pile. There is no pattern to distract; the wool itself, with its soft sheen and gentle striation, is the whole design.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun wool rich in lanolin, it is dense, plush underfoot, and naturally resistant to everyday wear. A deep, plain brown is among the most versatile of rugs, grounding a space without competing with it, and the small irregularities of the weave mark it as a genuine one-of-a-kind piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

Gabbeh takes its name from a Persian word meaning raw or natural, a nod to the honest, tribal character of these weavings. The plain Gabbeh is the purest form of that idea: no pattern, no border, just a single field of hand-spun, naturally dyed wool. The beauty lies in the abrash, the soft horizontal striations of cocoa, rust and coffee left by small-batch dyeing, which give the deep brown a living, hand-made depth no machine can copy. Small variations in colour and weave are the mark of a genuine handmade rug, the trace of a single weaver rather than a machine.

Returns We accept returns within 7 days of delivery. Items must be unused and in their original condition. To start a return, contact our customer support. For a defective or incorrectly shipped item, we cover the return cost and arrange a replacement or refund. For returns due to personal preference such as size, colour, or a change of mind, return shipping is paid by the customer.
