A hand-knotted Yamoud rug from Pakistan, woven in 100% hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation. A single column of octagonal Turkmen güls runs down a narrow beige field, each one quartered and filled with hooked motifs in rust orange and dark brown, separated by stepped chevrons.

The Yamoud format is defined by its borders: unusually wide multi-band framing in dark brown and camel, carrying rows of diamonds, hooks and small geometric repeats, so the gül panel reads as a bright spine down the centre of a densely worked ground. A one-of-a-kind piece.

The gül is the tribal emblem of the Turkmen peoples of Central Asia, and each tribe wove its own, repeated down the field so that a rug announced who had made it before anything else registered. Yamoud takes its name from the Yomud, and what distinguishes the design is not the gül alone but the proportion around it: the field is drawn narrow, carrying a single column of güls, and the borders are widened until they occupy almost as much of the rug as the field itself. The effect is quite different from a Bokhara, where güls repeat in a grid across an open ground. Here they form a bright spine running the length of the piece, held between bands of diamonds, hooks and small geometric repeats worked in dark brown against beige. Woven in Pakistan, where Turkmen weaving traditions have continued for generations.

Returns We accept returns within 7 days of delivery. Items must be unused and in their original condition. To start a return, contact our customer support. For returns due to personal preference such as size, colour, or a change of mind, return shipping is paid by the customer.
