Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A hand-knotted Khan Muhammadi runner from Afghanistan, woven in 100% hand-spun wool. Seven navy diamond medallions run the length of a warm coral red field, each ringed with gold and orange rosettes around a small blue centre, with hooked stems and blossoms filling the ground between them.

Wide navy borders carry paisley and floral devices in coral and gold, framed by fine guard stripes, and the rug is finished with a grey fringe. At 296cm long and 88cm wide this is a true runner, made for a hallway or a long kitchen. A one-of-a-kind piece.

  • Type: Khan Muhammadi, diamond medallion design
  • Material: 100% wool
  • Size: 88×296cm (Runner Rugs)

  • SKU: NKM726334
  • One-of-a-kind: yes

Material: 100 percent hand-spun wool.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on a low setting.
  • Turn the runner end for end every six months, as hallway traffic wears one end faster.
  • Blot spills immediately, working from the outside in.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Have the rug professionally deep-cleaned when needed.

The colouring is what sets this runner apart from its neighbours. Khan Muhammadi weaving is usually deep madder red; here the ground is a warmer coral, and the medallions are ringed not in ivory but in gold and orange rosettes, which changes the whole temperature of the rug. Seven medallions pass underfoot along its length, each one identical in structure and slightly different in the filling, set into a ground worked so densely with hooked stems and blossoms that the coral shows through mainly as outline. The grey fringe cools the ends, where ivory would have made the piece read warmer still. Woven in northern Afghanistan.
