Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A finely hand-woven kilim from Afghanistan, made in 100% hand-spun wool. The crimson field is filled corner to corner with a lattice of small elongated diamonds, each outlined in navy and holding a tiny apricot or ivory floret — several hundred of them across the field, drawn small enough that the pattern reads as texture from standing height.

Nine border bands frame the field, alternating navy, crimson and camel with rosettes, hooks and running vine, closed by an ivory fringe at both ends. Being a flatweave it is thin, light and reversible. A one-of-a-kind piece.

Care instructions

  • Always use a rug pad underneath — a flatweave slips easily without one.
  • Vacuum gently with the beater bar off.
  • Turn the kilim over every year — it is reversible and wears evenly if used both sides.
  • Blot spills immediately, working from the outside in.
  • Have the kilim professionally cleaned when needed — never machine wash.

The diamonds on this rug are drawn about as small as the knot will allow, and that is the whole point of it. Several hundred fill the field, each outlined in navy with a single apricot or ivory floret at its heart, and holding that grid steady across two and a half metres without it drifting is the real work. From standing height the field reads as a single crimson texture; kneel down and it resolves into individual compartments, no two coloured quite alike. Nine border bands frame it, which is generous for a rug this size and speaks to a weaver unwilling to hurry the edges. The red is madder-dyed and will deepen rather than fade with the years.
