Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A hand-knotted Khan Muhammadi rug from Afghanistan, woven in 100% hand-spun wool. Two large lobed medallions sit one above the other on a crimson field, each outlined in ivory with a pale blue rosette at the centre and flanked by coral cartouches, with navy spandrels closing the corners and a diaper-patterned ground filling the space between.

A wide navy main border carries crimson rosettes and hooked devices, framed by red and ivory guard stripes. A one-of-a-kind piece.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on a low setting.
  • Rotate the rug every six months for even wear.
  • Blot spills immediately, working from the outside in.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Have the rug professionally deep-cleaned when needed.

Two medallions rather than one is a decision about how a rug is meant to be seen. A single central medallion asks you to stand at the middle of the long side; a pair asks you to walk the length, and suits a narrow room or a space where furniture will sit across one end. The medallions here are drawn in the Caucasian manner — lobed, outlined in ivory, with a pale rosette at the centre and coral cartouches to either side — and the crimson between them is not left plain but filled with a fine diaper lattice, so the field never goes quiet. Woven in northern Afghanistan, where weavers have absorbed designs from across the region and made them their own.
