Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A soft gold field covered edge to edge in a scrolling vine that carries palmettes, serrated leaves and small rosettes, worked so densely that the ground shows only in glimpses. At the centre sits a deep plum medallion with a pendant finial reaching from each end, and the same plum returns in the four corner spandrels. A near-black main border of flowering vine surrounds the whole, separated from the field by several hair-fine guard stripes in rose and ivory.

Hand-knotted in silk at 32/32 quality — 32 knots to the inch in each direction, a little over a thousand knots in every square inch. That density is what lets the vine hold a true curve and the leaves keep their serrations at this scale. The silk pile shifts with the light: viewed from one end the gold ground reads warm and buttery, from the other it cools and the plum medallion deepens almost to black. Cream fringe at both ends. At 76×119cm it works beside a bed, in an entry, or as a wall piece.

100% silk pile, hand-knotted at 32/32 quality, with a natural fringe at both ends. Silk is stronger than wool thread for thread but far less forgiving of moisture, friction and sunlight, so this rug asks for more care than a wool piece and should never be cleaned at home.

The pale gold ground will show a spill more readily than a dark rug would, and a fine silk pile shades and tracks where it is walked on — that shading is normal and reverses when the pile is brushed back. Use a rug pad underneath to stop it creeping and to take the abrasion off the foundation.

The number on the label is the thing to understand here. A quality of 32/32 means the weaver tied 32 knots to the inch across the warp and 32 down the weft — a little over a thousand knots in a square inch, and something close to nine million in a rug this size. Density is not decoration: it is what decides whether a curve stays a curve. At a coarser gauge the scrolling vine that runs across this field would break into visible steps, and the serrated leaves would round off into blobs. Look closely at where a stem crosses behind a palmette and comes out the other side still on the same line — that continuity is only possible at this knot count. The pendant finials hanging from the top and bottom of the medallion are a Persian court convention: they mark the long axis so the eye knows which way the rug is meant to be seen, which matters on a design that is otherwise almost symmetrical in both directions.
