Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A deep green field left almost entirely open, with the decoration gathered into a wide floral frame around it — large naturalistic blooms, buds and serrated leaves on curling stems, worked in cream, grey-blue, russet and brown. The flowers are drawn in the European manner rather than the stylised Persian one: recognisable leaf shapes, shading built from tonal steps, stems that curve and cross. A camel-ground main border carries a scrolling leafy vine, framed by narrow dogtooth guard stripes, with a natural fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. The open centre is the defining decision. On most rugs the field is the busiest part; here it is bare, so the pattern reads as a wreath laid around an empty middle. At 171×245cm that middle is roughly where a coffee table or a seating group would sit, which means the drawing stays visible around the furniture instead of disappearing under it — a practical advantage of the layout as well as an aesthetic one. The green is deep and slightly grey rather than emerald, and will read as a dark anchor in a pale room.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, and a room-sized rug spreads wear over a large area rather than concentrating it.

The open centre is the part that will show wear first, because it has no pattern to disguise footmarks, vacuum tracks or crushing from furniture legs. A plain field of any colour is less forgiving than a busy one, so a rug pad matters here more than it would on a densely drawn rug. The deep green is also a colour that shows lint and pale fibres readily.

Gol farang means foreign flower, and it is the Persian name for exactly what is on this rug: flowers drawn the European way. Compare them with the palmettes and rosettes of a classical Persian design, which are symmetrical, flattened and abstract, built to be read as ornament. These are not. The leaves have serrated edges and irregular outlines, the stems curve and cross one another, and each bloom is shaded through several tones so that it appears to turn in space. The vocabulary arrived through European trade and printed textiles in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and was absorbed into Persian workshop weaving, and it is a fair marker of a curvilinear double-knot rug — drawing this loose is not possible on the coarser single-knot grid. The other decision worth noticing is the open field. Leaving the centre bare inverts the usual hierarchy: instead of a medallion drawing the eye inward, the emptiness pushes it outward to the flowers at the edges, and the rug reads as a wreath rather than as a picture with a subject.
