Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A near-black navy field carrying a column of three large concentric medallions, each ringed by sawtooth bands in red and green and a grey-blue band of small devices, with an apricot centre filled with a fine repeat of leaves and hooked sprays. Stepped arms run from the medallions out to the field edges. Very wide borders of dense diamond diaper in salmon, red and cream frame the field, with a band of small vase-and-tree devices, and a broad end panel of large diamonds closes the rug. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. Every repeating pattern on this rug sits inside something — the medallion centres, the border bands, the end panel — and the field itself carries no repeat at all. At 77×254cm this is a short runner, suited to a small hall or a landing. A near-black ground is among the most forgiving colours for a corridor, though the cream and apricot will show wear before the field does.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, which makes this a practical choice for a hallway that gets real use.

A near-black ground is the most forgiving colour a rug can have and hides everyday marks well. The exceptions are lint and pale fibres, which show on dark wool more than on any other, and the apricot medallion centres — they are the palest thing on the rug and they sit directly on the centre line, which on a runner is where the traffic goes.

Look into the apricot centre of any of the three medallions. It is not a plain panel with a device in the middle — it is filled with a fine all-over repeat of small leaves and hooked sprays in salmon, green and grey, worked at a scale of a centimetre or so and running edge to edge inside the medallion. What is inside each medallion is, in miniature, exactly the kind of pattern that would cover the whole field of another rug.

Once you have seen that, the structure of the rug becomes clear. There are repeats at three different scales here — the tiny one inside the medallions, the diamond diaper filling the wide borders, and the large diamonds of the end panel — and every one of them is enclosed within a frame. The field is the exception: it holds three medallions and their connecting arms and nothing else, no repeat anywhere. That is the reverse of how most rugs are organised, where the field carries the repeat and the borders contain it. Here the repeats have all been pushed into the containers and the field has been left to do something else.
