Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

An ivory field carrying a dense scrolling arabesque of split leaves and small blossoms in rust, salmon and pale grey, with a large radiating medallion at the centre — boteh-shaped petals in salmon, cream and rust turning around a pale grey rosette — and a lobed pendant reaching from each end. Broad scrolling leaf forms fill the corners. A wide salmon main border of flowering vine frames the whole, backed by ivory guard bands, and a plain band above the fringe carries small ornamental cartouches at both ends. Grey-cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool at a fine gauge, fully curvilinear throughout. The palette is the unusual part: measured across the field, virtually every colour on this rug sits on the warm side of neutral, and the pale blue that appears at the centre of the medallion is not blue at all. At 200×302cm this is a large room rug, big enough for a full seating group or a dining table with chairs pulled out. Both the ivory field and the salmon border are pale, so this suits a considered room rather than a working one.

This is a fine, hand-knotted piece that rewards a little extra care. 100% wool pile with a natural fringe at both ends.

Both the ivory field and the salmon border are pale, so this rug shows traffic and spills more readily than a dark one. Salmon is a weak red and among the least light-fast colours here, so the border will lose tone before the field does — and because the whole rug sits in one narrow warm register, that shift closes the small gap between field and border faster than it would on a strongly contrasted rug. A fine pile also crushes under furniture legs, so use a rug pad.

There is no cool colour on this rug. That sounds like an overstatement until you go looking for the exception, and there is an obvious candidate: the rosette at the centre of the medallion, along with a scattering of small flower heads through the field, all of which read clearly as pale blue against the salmon around them. Measure them and they are not blue. They are a pale warm grey, and across the whole field barely three hundredths of one per cent of the surface is genuinely cooler than neutral.

The blue is manufactured entirely by contrast. A grey surrounded by salmon and rust will read cool, because the eye judges a colour against its neighbours rather than in absolute terms. The test is easy and worth doing: set something actually blue beside the medallion — a book jacket, a phone case — and the rosette will drop out of blue and settle into grey. This is workshop judgement rather than accident. A true blue at the centre would have anchored the eye and held it there; a warm grey does the same work at a distance while never breaking the rug out of its single warm register.
