Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A deep madder red field carrying an all-over Sarouk garden design: small footed vases with flowering plants rising from them, slender cypresses, palmettes and rosettes in gold, cream, sage, teal and black, arranged in mirrored pairs about the centre line. A deep indigo border of large vases and palmettes frames the field, backed by fine barber-pole guards in gold and red. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool to the 10/16 quality. Unlike a purely abstract floral, much of what is drawn here is a recognisable object — a vase, a plant in a pot, a tree — so the field reads as a garden rather than as pattern. At 63×93cm this is a small mat, suited to a bedside, an entrance or a wall hanging. A deep red ground is among the most forgiving colours a rug can have.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted to the 10/16 quality, with a natural fringe at both ends. The grade refers to knots counted per inch in each direction, and it is what allows objects as small as a vase or a cypress to stay legible at a few millimetres across.

A deep madder ground is among the most forgiving colours a rug can have and hides everyday marks well, and the indigo border better still. The cream and gold in the vases and flowers are the vulnerable colours — they are the palest things here and the first to grey.

Most floral rugs give you abstractions — a palmette is a flower reduced to a symbol, a vine is a line with leaves on it. This one keeps hold of the objects. Look across the field and you will find small footed vases with plants growing out of them, slender cypress trees standing between the flowers, and pots set on the ground. They are drawn simply, in a few knots each, but they stay recognisable as things rather than as ornament. That is the Sarouk garden vocabulary, and it is why the field reads as a place rather than a pattern.

The arrangement is strictly mirrored about the long centre line — every vase on the left has its twin on the right, at the same height and in the same colours — but nothing repeats down the length. Work from the bottom upward and the sequence keeps changing: pots, then cypresses, then a band of palmettes, then something else again. It is a design that rewards being looked at end to end rather than glanced at, which suits a small rug you will pass close to every day.
