Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A madder red field with no medallion — instead an all-over design of large fan-shaped palmettes and long serrated leaves carried on a scrolling stem, running edge to edge and cut off by the border rather than resolving inside it. The palmettes are worked in gold, ivory, indigo and green, and no two adjacent ones share a colour scheme. A wide gold main border repeats the palmettes at a smaller scale, flanked by indigo guard stripes of small rosettes, with a red selvedge and cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool, and given the antique finish the supplier calls Qadeem — a wash that takes the lustre off the surface and softens the dyes so the rug reads as an older piece from the day it arrives. The red ground carries visible abrash, wide horizontal banding where one dye lot gave way to the next. At 80×345cm this is a long, narrow runner for a corridor or a landing. A madder red ground is practical in a busy space and hides everyday marks far better than a pale rug would.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, which makes this a practical choice for a corridor that gets real use.

The Qadeem antique wash has already taken the lustre off the surface, so this rug will not develop sheen with use in the way an unwashed wool rug does, and its muted tone is permanent rather than a sign of wear. The abrash banding in the red ground is a feature of hand-spun, small-lot dyed wool. A runner takes concentrated traffic down its centre line, so use a rug pad and rotate it end for end regularly.

Two separate words are doing work on this rug's label, and they describe different things. Chobi names the design tradition — the Sultanabad vocabulary of large lobed palmettes, long serrated leaves and a thin scrolling vine, with no medallion anywhere. Qadeem means old, and names a finish: a wash applied after weaving that strips the lustre from the wool and softens the dyes, so a new rug arrives already looking like one that has spent decades on a floor. That muted, slightly dusty quality is deliberate and permanent, not fading, and it will not brighten with cleaning. In the field itself, look at the palmettes: each is edged with small teeth and radiating points, which is what separates this family from the smooth-edged palmettes of a Persian workshop rug. They sit on a vine that never terminates, and because there is no medallion the pattern simply continues until the border stops it — follow a palmette to the edge and you will find it sliced in half. Note too that no two neighbouring palmettes share a colour scheme, which is what keeps a repeating motif from reading as wallpaper over three and a half metres.
