Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A rose-pink field carrying a single close-packed column of Turkmen güls — around twenty of them, each quartered and filled with hooked devices in navy, cream and apricot, and set so tightly that they nearly touch and read as one continuous chain. Wide navy borders of rosettes and stars flank the field, taking up more of the rug's width than the field itself, with a broad diagonal-lattice end panel and cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. The rose ground is worth noticing: Turkmen weaving is historically madder red, and a pink of this kind is a modern choice rather than a traditional one — the drawing is entirely orthodox, the colour is not. At 76×306cm this is a runner for a hallway or a landing, and the narrow field between wide borders makes the rug read as an emphatic line down a corridor.

  • Type: Hand-knotted pile rug, runner
  • Material: 100% wool
  • Design: Turkmen gül Bokhara, single-column chain
  • Size: 76×306cm (2'6"×10'0") — Runner
  • Colour: Rose pink and navy
  • SKU: NF 218461
  • One-of-a-kind: Yes

100% wool pile, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, which makes this a practical choice for a corridor that gets real use.

The mid-toned rose ground hides marks better than a pale rug but less well than a dark one. Pink is a weak red and among the less light-fast colours on the rug, so keep it out of a sunny hallway. A runner takes concentrated traffic down its centre line, so use a rug pad and rotate it end for end regularly.

The drawing on this rug is entirely traditional and the colour is not, which is worth knowing rather than glossing over. Turkmen weaving is historically madder red — the deep brownish crimson that comes from the madder root — and every element here, the quartered güls, the rosette borders, the diagonal end panel, belongs to that tradition unaltered. The rose pink does not. It is a modern choice made for rooms that would find a madder ground too heavy, and it changes the character completely while leaving the design untouched. Neither approach is more authentic than the other in a rug woven today; what matters is knowing which decision you are looking at. The second thing to notice is how tightly the güls are packed. They nearly touch, so instead of sitting as separate emblems with field between them they read as one continuous chain running the length of the rug — a single line rather than a column of marks.
