Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A finely hand-woven kilim from Afghanistan, made in 100% hand-spun wool. The centre panel is worked as dozens of narrow horizontal bands in terracotta, apricot, cream, plum and olive, each carrying its own small repeat of diamonds, hooks or crosses, with the bands drawn so fine that the panel reads as a woven texture rather than as pattern.

Deep multi-band borders frame it on all sides, and the ends finish in broad striped panels of rust, gold and cream before a golden fringe. Being a flatweave it is thin, light and reversible. A one-of-a-kind piece.

  • Origin: Afghanistan
  • Type: Kilim, fine banded flatweave with soumak embroidery
  • Material: 100% wool
  • Size: 189×274cm (Medium Rugs (5x8 - 6x9))
  • Colour: Terracotta and apricot with cream, plum and olive banding
  • SKU: NKL1012101
  • One-of-a-kind: yes

Material: 100 percent hand-spun wool, flat-woven with soumak embroidered banding. No pile.

Care instructions

  • Always use a rug pad underneath — a flatweave slips easily without one.
  • Vacuum gently with the beater bar off, working along the bands rather than across them.
  • Turn the kilim over every year — it is reversible and wears evenly if used both sides.
  • Blot spills immediately, working from the outside in.
  • Have the kilim professionally cleaned when needed — never machine wash.

The banding on this one is drawn finer than on any of its neighbours — dozens of stripes across the centre panel, several of them only a few millimetres deep, each still carrying its own small repeat. At arm's length the whole panel reads as a single warm texture; kneel down and it separates into diamonds, hooks and crosses in half a dozen colours. That fineness is a matter of patience rather than of materials: the same wool worked in wider bands would take a fraction of the time. The palette stays within terracotta, apricot and cream, which is what allows so much detail to sit together without the rug becoming restless.
