Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A deep wine red field carrying a single column of large Turkmen güls, each quartered into cream, salmon and near-black with a dark centre, and flanked by small hooked pendants at the field edges. A fine dark line runs the whole length of the field down its exact centre, passing through the middle of every gül. Very wide multi-band borders of diamond meander, hooked devices and small repeats in cream, teal, salmon and black frame the field, and a bold diagonal-lattice panel closes the end. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. The centre line is woven rather than a crease — a single row of near-black knots running unbroken from one end of the field to the other. At 109×195cm this is a small room rug, suited to a bedside, a study or an entrance. A deep red ground is among the most forgiving colours a rug can have, though the cream in the güls will show wear first.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, and at this size the rug is light enough to lift and shake out.

A deep red ground is among the most forgiving colours a rug can have and hides everyday marks well. The exception is the cream inside the güls, which is the palest thing here and the first to grey — and it runs down the centre of the rug, which on a piece placed in a doorway is where the traffic crosses.

Run your eye down the middle of the field and you will find a fine dark line, one knot wide, running from the top of the field to the bottom without a break. It passes straight through the centre of every gül and continues across the open red between them. It is easy to mistake for a fold crease at first glance; it is not. Measured against the wool either side of it, the line drops to near-black while the ground beside it stays a bright red — a shadow would darken the red proportionally rather than replace it. This is dark wool, knotted deliberately, all the way down.

What it does is thread the column together. A single file of güls on an open ground normally reads as separate emblems spaced apart, each complete in itself; here they are strung on a line like beads, and the field gains a continuous axis it would not otherwise have. It also gives the rug a decided direction — the line runs the long way, so the eye travels along it rather than settling on any one gül. On a piece this size, sitting in a doorway or beside a bed, that turns out to be a useful thing for the drawing to do.
