An all-over ikat design floats across this rug in soft cream and pale gold, set against a muted blue-teal ground. The large palmette and leaf forms are feathered at the edges in the characteristic blurred manner of ikat weaving, giving the surface a gentle sense of movement, as though the pattern were dissolving softly into the background.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun, lanolin-rich wool, the pile is dense and soft underfoot and naturally resists everyday wear. Natural dyes give the blue its quiet depth and let the cream motifs glow, while small variations from knot to knot mark it as a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

  • Origin: Afghanistan
  • Type: Afghani Gabbeh, hand-knotted

  • SKU: NG 78126
  • One-of-a-kind: yes

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

Ikat patterns take their name from a resist-dyeing technique in which the design is dyed into the yarn before weaving, so the motifs always carry a soft, feathered edge. Here that blurred, watery quality is recreated knot by knot in wool — big palmettes and curling leaves in cream and gold drifting over a calm blue-teal ground, each shape slightly different from the last in the way only a hand-knotted rug can be.
