A calm sea-green field is framed by a loose scatter of small tribal motifs — framed diamonds, combs, little ladders, zigzags and soft blocks of rust, brick, gold and pale blue — each one knotted freehand so no two are quite alike. The open green centre keeps the rug serene while the playful symbols around the edge give it warmth and character, a quiet nod to the folk vocabulary of nomadic Gabbeh weaving.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun wool that is naturally rich in lanolin, the pile is dense, soft underfoot and naturally resistant to everyday wear. The colours are drawn from natural dyes, so the green shifts gently across the field and every motif is placed by hand — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made rug.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

The motifs scattered around this rug come from the old Gabbeh vocabulary of the nomadic weavers — combs, diamonds, little gardens, ladders and zigzag water lines — symbols once drawn from memory to tell small stories. Set loosely around a calm sea-green field, each is knotted by hand and sits a little differently on every side; that gentle irregularity is the signature of a true nomadic Gabbeh.
