Pink Diamond Jaldar

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan, with ivory fringe at both ends. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the dense pile of a Jaldar is made for everyday floor use.

The dusty pink field is light and largely plain between the güls, so it will show marks and pile shading more readily than a dark red rug — it will look lighter or darker depending on which way the pile has been brushed. In a hallway or doorway, keep it where shoes come off rather than where they come in straight from outside.

A Jaldar is built on a net — a lattice of bands with a gül caught in every opening. On a large rug that net spreads across the field in rows and columns. On a narrow rug like this one it is reduced to its simplest form: a single column, four openings stacked one above another, so the lattice becomes a ladder. Look at the cross-bands between the güls. Each one runs from side to side and, where it meets the frame, flares into a small triangle of coral and grey-blue, the brightest colour on the rug. Those triangles are the joints of the ladder. They repeat at every rung and in all four corners, and they are what make the field read as one connected structure rather than four separate medallions placed in a line. The soft pink ground between them is left almost plain, so the four güls and the joints of the lattice carry the whole design.
