Care instructions

• Always use a rug pad underneath — a flatweave slips easily without one.
• Vacuum gently with the beater bar off, working along the bands rather than across them.
• Turn the kilim over every year — it is reversible and wears evenly if used both sides.
• Blot spills immediately, working from the outside in.
• Have the kilim professionally cleaned when needed — never machine wash.

This is a nearly square piece, which is unusual and worth knowing before you buy: at 202 by 231 centimetres it will not sit the way a long rug does, and it suits a square room, a wide landing or a spot beneath a round table far better than a corridor. The design answers that shape. There is no directional medallion and no top or bottom, just a diamond lattice running corner to corner with a different small motif in every compartment, so the rug reads correctly from any side of the room. The whole surface is soumak-embroidered over a flat-woven ground, which gives it a raised texture that catches the light and makes the palette — gold, rose, terracotta and cream, all close together in tone — read as depth rather than as flat colour.
