A deep navy field is covered edge to edge with the timeless ‘Mahi’ (fish) design — an all-over lattice of tiny leaves, rosettes and curving ‘fish’ in red, rose, blue, green and cream — in this finely knotted Persian Sabzevar. A glowing red border of turtle palmettes, flanked by blue floral guard stripes, frames the field. It is a classic of Khorasan town weaving, prized for its density and jewel-like colour.

Sabzevar rugs are known for their fine knotting and durable, hard-wearing pile, hand-spun from Khorasan highland wool. The rich, natural-dyed palette only mellows with age. Worked entirely by hand over many months, every motif is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece, an heirloom to be handed down for generations.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum gently on low suction without a rotating brush, and avoid the fringes.
  • Use a rug pad underneath to cushion the pile and prevent slipping.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the natural-dyed colours.
  • Use only a specialist hand-wash rug cleaner for any deep clean.
