A deep red field is covered with a fine all-over herati (‘mille-fleurs’) lattice of tiny leaves and blossoms, gathered around a pale hexagonal medallion with pendants, in this finely knotted Persian Sabzevar. Cream-and-red corner spandrels frame the field, and a glowing rose border of turtle palmettes completes it. It is a classic of Khorasan town weaving, prized for its density and precision.

Sabzevar rugs, from the Khorasan region of north-east Persia, are prized for their fine knotting and their durable, tightly knotted pile, hand-spun from highland wool. The rich, natural-dyed palette only mellows with age. Worked entirely by hand over many months, every motif is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece, an heirloom to be handed down for generations.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum gently on low suction without a rotating brush, and avoid the fringes.
  • Use a rug pad underneath to cushion the pile and prevent slipping.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the natural-dyed colours.
  • Use only a specialist hand-wash rug cleaner for any deep clean.
