This rug forgoes a central medallion in favour of an all-over design: a deep black field covered from edge to edge with a flowing lattice of shah-abbasi palmettes, curling vines and large open blossoms. Worked in warm gold, tan, brown, cream and touches of soft green, the pattern turns the dark ground into a continuous, glowing garden in which the eye is free to wander anywhere it pleases.
A broad gold-and-camel border frames the field, its procession of floral palmettes echoing the colours within and softening the drama of the black ground. Fine gold guard stripes and a black outer edge complete the composition. Because the design repeats rather than centring on one motif, the rug feels calm and balanced from every direction — equally at home whichever way it is turned.
Hand-knotted in Pakistan with the fine Persian double knot, the rug is woven in pure wool on a cotton foundation — the pile dense and even, the floral detail crisp throughout, finished with a hand-tied ivory fringe.
