Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A deep indigo ground carrying an all-over trellis of arching stems, each ogival compartment enclosing acanthus leaves, lobed vine leaves and small five-petalled flowers, drawn in pale blue with silk highlights. The stems form the lattice themselves rather than sitting inside a separate frame. There is no border of any kind — the pattern runs to the selvedge on all four sides.

Hand-knotted in wool with silk. The design repeats horizontally every 26.2cm as a straight repeat, with no vertical offset between columns. At 299×234cm this is a large room rug, suited to a living or dining room.

Wool pile with silk highlights, hand-knotted. The silk is used in the drawing rather than the ground, so the trellis and the leaves catch the light and lift away from the indigo as you move past them, which is what gives the surface its depth in a photograph and in a room.

The mixed fibre is the thing to plan around: wool and silk behave differently to water and to abrasion, so this rug needs to be treated as silk throughout rather than as a wool rug with a little silk in it. On colour it is very forgiving — a deep indigo ground with pale drawing over it hides almost everything except lint, which a dark ground always shows. With no border there is no plain margin at the edges, so any wear at the selvedge sits directly against the pattern.

Almost every knotted rug tells you where it begins and ends. A border frames the field, guard stripes step down to it, and often a medallion fixes the centre so the composition has somewhere to resolve. This one has none of that. Measuring the density of pale drawing in bands from the selvedge inward, the outermost eighth of the rug carries 38.4% and the centre carries 44.8%, with no systematic falloff anywhere between — the pattern simply continues to the edge and stops because the rug does.

That is how cloth is drawn, not how carpets are. The design repeats horizontally every 26.2cm as a straight repeat, with the columns aligned rather than dropped, and it could be extended in any direction without anything needing to be redesigned. The drawing supports the reading: arching stems that form the trellis out of their own growth rather than being laid inside a separate frame, and leaves that are recognisably observed — acanthus, lobed vine, small umbels — instead of stylised into geometry. The effect underfoot is closer to a bolt of damask laid on the floor than to a framed carpet, and it means the rug will sit under furniture without a border being cut off, which is a practical advantage on a piece this size.
