A soft cream field carries a central panel of vertical diamond-lattice motifs in red, brown and black — a quiet, tribal geometry — in this hand-knotted Afghani Sherwan. Around it runs a series of fine borders of zigzags, diamonds and tiny güls in gold, red and cream, giving the piece a richly layered, framed look. Its soft, pale palette makes an understated change from the usual deep reds.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every motif and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every figure is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

Afghani Sherwan rugs are hand-knotted in northern Afghanistan, drawing on the great Turkmen and Baluch weaving traditions of the region. This piece sets a central panel of red and brown diamond-lattice motifs on a soft cream field, wrapped in a series of fine geometric borders — zigzags, diamonds and tiny güls.
