Bands of vivid tribal pattern run in vertical stripes across the centre of this hand-knotted Ghazni — rows of cypress trees, zigzags, hooked diamonds, little flowers and running borders in red, gold, blue, green, cream and brown, each stripe a different tribal motif. A deep madder-red border with a scrolling vine frames the lively centre, giving the rug the warm, festive character of a classic tribal Khorjin weave.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun Ghazni highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving crisp detail in every narrow band. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the colours glow with gentle abrash and every stripe is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

This is a tribal stripe, or Khorjin, design — the field divided into narrow vertical bands, each carrying a different nomadic motif: trees of life, combs, zigzags, running dogs and rosettes, drawn from a weaver’s memory. Framed by a deep red scrolling border, it gathers a whole vocabulary of tribal symbols into one lively rug. Finely knotted in Afghanistan from natural-dyed highland wool, every band is worked by hand — the fingerprint of a one-of-a-kind piece.
