Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

Bands of vivid tribal pattern run the full width of this hand-knotted Ghazni — rows of botehs, hooked diamonds, running dogs, rosettes and dotted stripes stacked one above the next in red, teal, orange, purple, green and gold. No two stripes are alike, giving the whole rug the joyful, improvised rhythm of a nomadic Gabbeh.

The design is a khorjin, or saddlebag, stripe — a village and nomadic tradition where each narrow band carries its own small motif, framed here by warm red kilim ends. Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is soft and lustrous, and the many natural dyes glow with a gentle abrash. Worked entirely by hand, every band is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

Ghazni rugs are woven by Afghan weavers around the city of Ghazni, often in the soft, natural-dyed wool of a Gabbeh. This one follows the khorjin, or saddlebag, tradition — the field built from many narrow stripes, each carrying its own small tribal motif in a different colour. There is no central medallion and no repeat; the design simply flows band by band, a nomadic way of weaving that makes every piece one of a kind.
