A deep blue field carries three bold star medallions down its length — a red-and-gold sunburst, a radiant cream Lezgi star, and a red medallion with a hooked gold centre — in this hand-knotted Kazak. Gold and orange star-flowers, radiating hooks and small tribal figures fill the ground, and a red border of running-dog hooks and angular vines, flanked by reciprocal guard stripes, frames the whole. It has the clear, powerful drawing that makes Kazak rugs instantly recognisable.
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun highland wool, the pile is thick, lustrous and hard-wearing. The colours are drawn from natural dyes, so the blue glows with abrash and every motif is drawn slightly differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
