A glowing red field carries a vertical pole of three linked tribal medallions — hooked cream-and-green diamonds above and below a stepped navy-and-blue centre — in this hand-knotted Afghani Sherwan. The field around them is alive with small Caucasian talismans: eight-pointed stars, combs, botehs and little birds, while deep-navy corner spandrels are filled with a red-and-cream diamond lattice. A broad ivory border packed with rosettes and rounded palmettes, flanked by fine floral guard stripes, frames the whole.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every motif and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every figure is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.

  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

Afghani Sherwan rugs revive the crisp geometry of the old Caucasus — Shirvan, Kuba and Kazak weavings — where a central pole of linked medallions is set against a field of small tribal talismans.
