A deep black field gives this rug its dramatic richness, and at its heart floats a large, ornate medallion crowned by a gold-and-cream star rosette. The black ground is worked edge to edge with fine all-over floral tracery — scrolling vines, palmettes and blossoms in gold, salmon, rust, soft green and ivory — so the darkness seems to glow from within, while pale ivory cartouches mark the medallion's pendants above and below.
Framing the field is a wide deep-red, burgundy-toned border, a stately run of gold and cream palmettes and flowering vine that brings warmth and weight to the composition. Slender gold guard stripes and a black outer edge complete the frame. The contrast of a black field with a red border and gold detail is among the most striking in Persian weaving — sophisticated, dramatic and unmistakably formal.
Hand-knotted in Pakistan with the fine Persian double knot, the rug is woven in pure wool on a cotton foundation — the pile dense and even, the detail extraordinarily crisp, finished with a hand-tied ivory fringe. A black-ground rug like this makes a confident centrepiece for a living room, dining room or study, anchoring a space with depth and drama. As a hand-knotted original, it is genuinely one of a kind.

The central-medallion design is the most celebrated layout in the Persian tradition, perfected in the workshops of Tabriz and Kashan. A single ornate medallion anchors the centre of a flowering field, echoed in the spandrels and enclosed by deep floral borders — a woven image of the paradise garden, ordered yet endlessly abundant.
A black ground is the rarest and most dramatic choice for this design: against it, the gold and jewel-toned florals seem to glow, and the classical pattern takes on a modern, sophisticated edge. Rewoven by hand in Pakistan in pure wool, the slight irregularities of line and colour are the signature of the weaver's hand, not flaws — the mark of a true one-of-a-kind piece.
