Dense rows of small Turkmen güls cover a deep burgundy-red field, each octagonal medallion quartered in cream, gold and black and linked by rows of tiny stepped diamonds. The rich, dark ground gives this Bokhara a warm, classic depth.

A run of many narrow guard borders in cream, gold and indigo — diamonds, hooked motifs and a banded gül border — frames the field, closing at each end into kilim-flatweave panels of latch-hook lattice. Hand-knotted in Pakistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and closely clipped, giving crisp definition to every gül and border. Coloured with rich, natural-looking dyes and worked entirely by hand, the deep red glows with a gentle abrash, and every medallion is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

The Bokhara takes its name from the Central Asian city of Bukhara, where Turkmen weavers set their fields with rows of güls — quartered octagonal medallions. This piece works the classic design in cream and gold on a deep burgundy-red ground, framed by many fine borders and kilim end panels. Hand-knotted in Pakistan from natural-dyed highland wool, every medallion is worked by hand — the fingerprint of a one-of-a-kind piece.
