Rows of small Turkmen güls rest on a soft dusty-taupe field, each octagonal medallion quartered in black and gold and linked by rows of tiny stepped diamonds. The muted mauve-brown ground gives this square Bokhara a warm, understated character.
A run of many narrow guard borders in black, gold and taupe — diamonds, hooked motifs and a scalloped medallion band — frames the field on all four sides, closing into banded panels of latch-hook lattice. Hand-knotted in Pakistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and closely clipped, giving crisp definition to every gül and border. Coloured with soft, natural-looking dyes and worked entirely by hand, the taupe ground carries a gentle abrash, and every medallion is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
