Rows of small Turkmen güls glow across a deep emerald-green field, each octagonal medallion quartered in gold, cream and black and linked by rows of tiny stepped diamonds. The rich, dark ground makes the golden medallions shine, giving this large Bokhara an elegant, jewel-like character.
A run of many narrow guard borders in gold, green and ivory — diamonds, hooked motifs and a scalloped medallion band — frames the field, closing at each end into banded panels of latch-hook lattice. Hand-knotted in Pakistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and closely clipped, giving crisp definition to every gül and border. Coloured with deep, natural-looking dyes and worked entirely by hand, the green ground carries a gentle abrash, and every medallion is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
