Rows of small Turkmen güls glow across a deep forest-green field, each octagonal medallion quartered in gold, cream and black and linked by rows of tiny stepped diamonds. The rich, dark ground makes the golden medallions stand out with a jewel-like brightness, giving this large Bokhara a dramatic, elegant character.
A run of many narrow guard borders in gold, green and ivory — diamonds, hooked motifs and a scalloped medallion band — frames the field, closing at each end into banded panels of latch-hook lattice. Hand-knotted in Pakistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and closely clipped, giving crisp definition to every gül and border. Coloured with deep, natural-looking dyes and worked entirely by hand, the green ground carries a gentle abrash, and every medallion is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
