Three columns of stepped-diamond güls run the length of a deep madder-red field, drawn in gold, salmon and black with slender diamond motifs set between them. Fine and closely knotted, the ground has the calm, orderly repeat that gives the Jaldar its quiet, jewel-like character.

A broad camel-gold border of hooked and running motifs frames the field, flanked by narrow guard stripes of little diamonds and barber-pole bands. Hand-knotted in Pakistan from fine, hand-spun wool with an added measure of silk, the pile is closely clipped for crisp definition, and the silk lends the gold and salmon tones a soft, shifting sheen. Every gül is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 80 percent hand-spun Afghan wool and 20 percent silk. The wool is naturally rich in lanolin for softness and easy care, while the silk adds a subtle sheen and depth of colour.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • For silk-blend rugs, use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

The Jaldar is a Pakistani reading of the old Turkmen gül rugs, its field set with tidy columns of small stepped diamonds rather than the heavy octagons of a Bokhara. Here they climb a deep madder-red ground in gold, salmon and black, closed by warm camel-gold borders. Finely hand-knotted from wool blended with silk, every diamond is worked by hand — no two quite alike, the fingerprint of a one-of-a-kind piece.
