A rich burnt-orange field carries rows of octagonal ‘elephant-foot’ güls — quartered and filled with stars in gold, cream and black — in this hand-knotted Afghani Sherwan, worked in the timeless manner of the Turkmen Ersari weavers. A border of güls frames the field, closing with an elem (skirt) of stylised trees and hooked motifs.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every gül and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every motif is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

Afghani Sherwan rugs are hand-knotted in northern Afghanistan, drawing on the great Turkmen weaving traditions of the region. This Bokhara follows the classic Ersari gül design — rows of octagonal ‘elephant-foot’ medallions in gold and black marching across a rich burnt-orange field, framed by a border of güls and closing with an elem (skirt) of stylised trees. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, every gül is drawn a little differently — the fingerprint of a one-of-a-kind piece.

Returns We accept returns within 7 days of delivery. Items must be unused and in their original condition. To start a return, contact our customer support. For a defective or incorrectly shipped item, we cover the return cost and arrange a replacement or refund. For returns due to personal preference such as size, colour, or a change of mind, return shipping is paid by the customer.
