A crimson field centred on an anchor medallion: a navy-framed gold and red diamond with a small cross at its heart, surrounded by cream hooked arms edged in green and pierced by a long pole ending in an anchor-shaped finial at each end. Gold and blue stepped triangles sit to either side, and at both ends of the field stand rows of small flowering shrubs in green, gold and cream above a zigzag ground line, with a small diamond at the centre of each end. A wide gold border of X-shaped stars and diamonds in red, navy and green runs between zigzag guard stripes, closed by a plain crimson outer band and a short fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. The medallion's hooked arms are cream rather than red, so against the crimson ground they stand out as the lightest shape on the rug. At 62×90cm this is an extra small rug — a doorway, bedside or wall piece.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in Afghanistan, with a short fringe at both ends. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the thick pile of a Kazak is made for everyday floor use.

Crimson is one of the most practical colours for a small floor rug and hides everyday marks well. The cream medallion arms and the gold border are the lightest parts of the rug and will show dirt first.

The anchor medallion is one of the oldest Kazak devices — a hooked diamond pierced by a pole, with a split finial at each end. On a pale ground it is usually drawn in red, and the red arms read as the strongest shape on the rug. Here the weaver has turned that around. The ground is crimson, and the medallion's hooked arms are cream, outlined in green, so the lightest colour on the rug now carries the boldest shape. Look at how the arms branch: each one steps outward in right angles and ends in a small cross, like the branches of a stylised tree. The rest of the palette stays warm — crimson, gold and cream — with navy used almost only in the frame of the central diamond, which is why the eye goes straight to the middle. The rows of small shrubs at each end are drawn in the same warm tones, so the whole rug reads as one glowing, sunlit piece.
