A deep madder-red field is anchored by a bold octagonal medallion in gold and ivory at its centre, flanked by smaller star and diamond medallions in navy, teal and gold in this hand-knotted Kazak. Small tribal flowers and hooked figures fill the field, and a broad ivory border, richly packed with geometric blossoms and star motifs, frames the whole. It has the clear, powerful drawing that makes Kazak rugs instantly recognisable.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun highland wool, the pile is thick, lustrous and hard-wearing. The colours are drawn from natural dyes, so the red glows with abrash and every motif is drawn slightly differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

The Kazak is one of the boldest of tribal weaves, descended from the mountain villages of the Caucasus, favouring large, clear medallions on saturated grounds. Here a central octagonal medallion sits on a glowing red field between smaller geometric medallions, all framed by an ivory border of tribal blossoms. Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from natural-dyed highland wool, every motif is worked by hand — the fingerprint of a one-of-a-kind piece.
