A glowing saffron-gold field carries a columnar lattice of stylised tribal motifs in this finely hand-knotted Afghani Sherwan — navy and rust boteh, tree and candelabra forms marching in neat vertical rows. Multiple lively borders in rust, indigo and gold, scattered with eight-pointed stars and running vines, frame the warm centre. It has the crisp drawing and glowing colour of a fine Caucasian tribal weave.
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and closely knotted, giving sharp definition to every motif and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the gold glows with gentle abrash and each figure is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
