Gold & Red Sunburst Medallion Rug, Hand-Knotted Afghani Sherwan

A warm golden field is filled with an all-over array of large serrated sunburst medallions in green and red, interspersed with deep-navy güls and small cruciform star-flowers, in this finely knotted Afghani Sherwan. A broad red border of palmettes and rosettes, flanked by navy guard stripes of stars and crosses, frames the glowing centre. It has the generous, colourful drawing of a classic Caucasian village weave.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every motif and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every figure is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
