An ivory field is covered edge to edge with an all-over pattern of small tribal motifs in this hand-knotted Afghani Sherwan — stepped stars, hooked crosses, little medallions and arrow-like forms in red, indigo, gold, green and soft blue. Several richly patterned borders in red, blue and cream, filled with rosettes, crosses and diamonds, frame the lively centre. It has all the crisp, geometric energy of a classic Caucasian tribal weave.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every small motif and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every figure is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.
