A warm golden field is covered edge to edge with an all-over lattice of small star-diamonds and hooked medallions — worked in red, indigo, green and cream — in this finely knotted Afghani Sherwan. A bold deep-navy border of angular ‘kufic’ latch-hooks, flanked by red-and-cream guard stripes of stars and diagonals, frames the busy centre. It has all the crisp, repeating geometry of a classic Kuba–Shirvan tribal weave.
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every motif and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every figure is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
