A deep red field carries rows of octagonal ‘elephant-foot’ güls — each quartered and filled with stars and crosses in orange, black and cream — in this hand-knotted Afghani Sherwan, worked in the timeless manner of the Turkmen Ersari and Bokhara weavers. Small tree and cross motifs fill the spaces between, all framed by a camel-gold border of stylised flowers and a running-vine guard stripe.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every gül and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every motif is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

Afghani Sherwan rugs are hand-knotted in northern Afghanistan, drawing on the great tribal weaving traditions of the region. This one follows the Turkmen ‘gül’ design — rows of octagonal ‘elephant-foot’ medallions, each quartered and filled with stars, marching across a deep red field in the manner of the old Ersari and Bokhara weavings, framed by a camel-gold border of stylised flowers. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, every gül is drawn a little differently — the fingerprint of a one-of-a-kind piece.

Returns We accept returns within 7 days of delivery. Items must be unused and in their original condition. To start a return, contact our customer support.
