Rows of small Turkmen güls cover a soft sage-green field, each octagonal medallion quartered in black, cream and salmon and linked by rows of tiny stepped diamonds. The gentle green ground — unusual for a Bokhara — gives this square rug a calm, restful character.

A run of many narrow guard borders in green, black and ivory — diamonds, hooked motifs and a scalloped medallion band — frames the field on all four sides, closing into banded panels of latch-hook lattice. Hand-knotted in Pakistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and closely clipped, giving crisp definition to every gül and border. Coloured with soft, natural-looking dyes and worked entirely by hand, the green ground carries a gentle abrash, and every medallion is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

The Bokhara takes its name from the Central Asian city of Bukhara, where Turkmen weavers set their fields with rows of güls — quartered octagonal medallions. Woven here as a square on a soft sage-green ground rather than the classic red, the güls are picked out in black, cream and salmon and framed by many fine green borders. Hand-knotted in Pakistan from natural-dyed highland wool, every medallion is worked by hand — the fingerprint of a one-of-a-kind piece.
