A warm red field carries a bold column of large octagonal güls — cream, gold, blue and green, each filled with hooked stars and cross-flowers — in this hand-knotted Kazak. Around them small güls and tribal figures scatter across the ground, all framed by wide gold borders of latch-hooks and eight-pointed stars with green and red guard stripes. It has the generous, polychrome colour of a classic Caucasian village weave.
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun highland wool, the pile is thick, lustrous and hard-wearing. The colours are drawn from natural dyes, so the red glows with abrash and every motif is drawn slightly differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
