A deep red field is filled with an array of tribal güls — a gold octagonal medallion at the centre, ringed by orange, green and navy star-güls, cross-flowers and serrated leaves — in this hand-knotted Kazak. A wide gold border of palmettes and rosettes, flanked by green guard stripes, frames the glowing ground. It has the clear, powerful drawing that makes Kazak rugs instantly recognisable.
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun highland wool, the pile is thick, lustrous and hard-wearing. The colours are drawn from natural dyes, so the red glows with abrash and every motif is drawn slightly differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
