A deep red field is filled with an all-over array of tribal güls — octagons and cruciform medallions in teal, gold, green and cream, each centred on a hooked star or flower — in this hand-knotted Kazak. A cream border of güls and eight-pointed star-flowers, flanked by green guard stripes, frames the busy ground. It has the generous, polychrome colour of a classic Caucasian village weave.
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun highland wool, the pile is thick, lustrous and hard-wearing. The colours are drawn from natural dyes, so the red glows with abrash and every motif is drawn slightly differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
