A deep burgundy field is arranged as a lattice of compartments — gold and cream hexagon medallions alternating with teal-blue diamond panels, each centred on a star or cross-flower — in this hand-knotted Afghani Sherwan. Red güls and small tribal figures fill the connective ground, all framed by a gold border of güls and palmettes with dark guard stripes. It has the rich, jewel-box colour of a classic Caucasian compartment weave.
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every motif and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every figure is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
