A deep indigo field carries this hand-knotted rug as an all-over garden lattice — a trellis of linked diamond compartments, each framing a single stylised flowering plant in the tribal Shirvan manner. Worked in madder red, gold, ivory and soft blue against the midnight ground, the repeating cells read like a walled garden seen from above, the oldest and most enduring of weaving subjects. A distinctive band of multi-coloured striped kilim finishes each end, the mark of a true tribal flatwoven foundation.
It is hand-knotted in Afghanistan by master weavers working in the older Caucasian Shirvan tradition, with a fine, even knot count, a low clipped pile and flat-woven kilim ends. The wool is hand-spun and coloured with natural dyes, which give the indigo and madder their depth and the gentle, light-catching variation that machine-made rugs can never reproduce. A broad madder-red border of bold palmettes, framed by guard stripes of linked diamonds, gathers the whole piece together.
Densely woven and built to last for generations, this is a collector-grade piece — equally at home as the centrepiece of a formal living or dining room or as an heirloom investment. As a hand-made rug, it is genuinely one of a kind.

Care instructions
- Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
- Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
- Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
- Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
- Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
- Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.
This rug repeats one of the oldest subjects in oriental weaving — the walled garden — as an all-over lattice of linked diamond compartments, each enclosing a single stylised flowering plant. It is drawn in the tribal Shirvan manner of the eastern Caucasus, where the garden is reduced to its essentials: a deep indigo ground, a trellis in ivory and gold, and blossoms in madder red and soft blue, all from natural dyes. Each end is finished with a band of multi-coloured striped kilim, the flatwoven signature of a tribal loom. Knotted entirely by hand in Afghanistan from hand-spun wool, no two compartments are exactly alike and the colours shift gently across the field — the fingerprint of a single weaver rather than a machine.
