A deep madder-red field is covered in an intricate all-over tracery of curling vines, palmettes and serrated leaves in green, ivory, gold and blue, drawn in the elegant curvilinear manner of the great Persian city workshops. At the centre floats a lobed ivory medallion with a navy core and pendant finials, echoed by navy floral spandrels at each corner.

The composition is framed by a deep indigo border of scrolling palmette vine, flanked by ivory floral guard stripes, and finished with kilim ends and fringe. Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun wool in the Persian Tabriz tradition, the rug is finely and densely woven, its natural-dye palette giving the red and indigo a depth synthetic colours never reach.

A curvilinear floral medallion rug is the most formal and enduring of all Persian designs. Densely knotted and built to last for generations, it brings a sense of richness and grandeur to a living or dining room and stands as a genuine collector's heirloom. As a hand-made rug, it is one of a kind.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool coloured with natural dyes, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

This is the classic Persian floral medallion, the design refined in the city workshops of Tabriz and Kashan and loved across the rug-weaving world. Every element carries meaning: the central medallion represents the dome of heaven seen from below, the corner spandrels its four quarters, and the endless vine of the field the eternal garden of paradise. The curling shah-abbasi palmettes and fine leaf-work demand enormous skill, each knot placed to keep the curves smooth. Woven in Afghanistan by hand from naturally dyed, hand-spun wool, the rug carries the subtle colour shifts and tiny variations that mark a piece made entirely by a single weaver rather than a machine.
